1900 – 1979
Dennis came to England in 1934 having been born in Hungary and educated at Budapest and Berlin. He was invited to Rugby by B.T.H. and worked in their Research Department for 15 years. In 1949 he moved to Imperial College in London, and was Professor of Applied Electron Physics from 1958 until he retired in 1967. He spent the summer months of his retirement in Italy.
In 1947, while at B.T.H. in Rugby, he invented holography for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1971. He received a fellowship of the Royal Society in 1956 and was appointed CBE in 1970. He died in London in February 1979.
